R E M E D I C Research Networking Programme
1. to award more ESF Travel Grants to young researchers (we expect minimally 30) working in Europe-based groups, and
2. to award ESF Travel Grants to European young researchers currently working in groups based outside Europe. a maximum of 6-7 of these young scientists will be allocated an ESF Travel Grant of maximum €1,000
Major aim of the 8th International Conference on Bone Morphogenetic Proteins
The major aim of the conference, which is organized every 2 years, is to continue bringing together senior and young scientists to discuss the recent front line developments in basic, translational and clinical research in the BMP field. The participants will talk about new therapeutic models for the future, in particular for the treatment of congenital and chronic disease, as well as tissue repair, of both hard and soft tissues where BMPs have been identified as key players. In addition, the meeting will discuss also recent progress in the regulation of BMP signalling and in research in fields beyond cartilage/bone. The meeting wants to present an outstanding programme with around 30 invited speakers (including members of the organizing committee) from all over the world and a strongly interactive audience of approximately 250 participants is expected.
For more information about the conference’s program, the organizing committee, the registration itself and the booking of accommodation, the submission of abstracts for poster and/or short oral presentation, and for application to Travel Grants, and the updates on this Travel Grant Scheme, see http://www.bmpconference2010.org/.
The ESF Travel Grant Scheme for this meeting
This Travel Grant Scheme is possible through support from ESF and its REMEDIC Research Networking Programme.
Our payment, to be made after the meeting (see below), will cover a maximum of 1,000 € in total based on actual expenses for each Travel Grant, and is composed of
(i) the registration fee* for the meeting
(ii) a daily allowance/lodging fee (85 €/day; max. 4 days)
(iii) maximum of €500 for travel cost (flights in economy; train travel preferably in 2nd class) for young researchers working in Europe; for European young researchers currently working in groups based outside Europe, we have the possibility to deviate from this composition, allowing more costs for travel, but the travel grant will in any case be limited to a maximum of €1,000
* for post-docs:
€250 per person when registered before July 1, 2010
€300 per person when registered after July 1, 2010
* for PhD Students:
€150 per student when registered before July 1 2010
€200 per student when registered after July 1 2010
Application and selection procedure
Application for a Travel Grant is possible
The e-mailed application (as a pdf file) should contain the three following pieces of information:

Depending on the case, the payment will be exerted either directly to the young researcher or through payment to their host organization/lab, which is to be indicated on the cost claim reimbursement form that we will provide in due time.
R E M E D I C Research Networking Programme
The European Science Foundation (ESF) is an independent, non-governmental organisation, the members of which are 79 national funding agencies, research performing agencies, academies and learned societies from 30 countries. The strength of ESF lies in the influential membership and in its ability to bring together the different domains of European science in order to meet the challenges of the future. Since its establishment in 1974, ESF, which has its headquarters in Strasbourg with offices in Brussels and Ostend, has assembled a host of organisations that span all disciplines of science, to create a common platform for cross-border cooperation in Europe.
ESF is dedicated to promoting collaboration in scientific research, funding of research and science policy across Europe. Through its activities and instruments ESF has made major contributions to science in a global context. The ESF covers the following scientific domains:
• Humanities
• Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences
• Medical Sciences
• Physical and Engineering Sciences
• Social Sciences
• Marine Sciences
• Materials Science and Engineering
• Nuclear Physics
• Polar Sciences
• Radio Astronomy
• Space Sciences
Research Networking Programmes (RNPs), such as REMEDIC, are the platform for nationally funded groups to address major scientific and research infrastructure issues with the goal to advance the frontiers of science. Successful proposals, selected following an open call and an international peer review process, must deal with high-quality science and demonstrate a clear added value of being carried out at the European level. RNPs are funded à la carte by ESF Member Organisations interested in funding such proposals recommended by the ESF.
This conference is financially supported by the European Science Foundation in the framework of the Research Networking Programme “Regenerative Medicine” (REMEDIC, 06-RNP-128), and providing the Travel Grant Scheme of the 8th International Conference on BMPs with substantial support for young European researchers within Europe and outside Europe to participate in the conference.
